PRESS RELEASE ON DRIVERS ENLIGHTENMENT NIPCO plc, a key downstream operator is organizing an enlightment programme for tanker drivers this week Saturday [8th Nov 2007[ in a conscious move to further guarantee safety of lives and properties in the process of petroleum products haulage across the country. The event has been put together as one of the company proactive measures to check the spate of accidents involving tanker drivers conveying petroleum products and engender safety consciousness among the group of drivers on the nations highways. The programme which will draw facilitators from both the public and private sector is been packaged in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) holds at the company’s expansive truck park within the Apapa terminal. Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) as part of the programme is expected to take drivers on various causes of accidents and give- visuals on accident scenes to confirm to the participants that it do occur and that it can be prevented with a lot of caution by those on wheels. Otumba Toyin Abbas, a renowned guru on safety will deliver a paper on Defensive Drinking and Operational Procedures and attendees of the programme would be exposed to lots of practical and theoretical demonstration on what it takes to load at the company’s automated terminal. The exercise is part of the sensitization initiatives of the organization on “Safe Motoring” especially by trucks used for petroleum products distribution already has the blessing of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of the National Union of Petroleum and National Gas Workers (NUPENG). The exercise which is one of the corporate social Responsibility programmes of the company is expected to be attended by no fewer than 300 tanker drivers across the nation with NIPCO PTD chairman Alhaji Aliu Balogun as one of the speakers. NIPCO presently has about 200 trucks branded in the company’s logo by some of its partner station owners across the length and breath of the country. |
