| NIPCO PLC TO IMPORT
30,000 MT OF PREMIUM MOTOR SPIRIT (PMS)
Nigerian Independent
Petroleum Company (NIPCO) Plc has concluded arrangement
to bring into the country fresh supply of about 30,000
MT of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) as a flag off of its
importation programme to ensure adequate supply of
petroleum to independent marketers in the country.
The arrangement which was sealed earlier January this
year is part of the major goals of the company to put
the perennial fuel scarcity which is fast taking its
tall on marketers especially IPMAN members behind us and
chart a course in which fuel marketers can be assured of
adequate and affordable supply at all times.
The consignment which is expected in the country about
middle of February is within the specialization of the
relevant regulatory agencies within the sector.
NIPCO Plc floated by Independent Marketers under the
aegis of IPMAN with Pure Bond U.K as its core investor
has been in the fore front of ensuring that its
promoters are kept in business all year around as well
as guaranteeing good dividends on their investments.
It is against the foregoing that the company having
ruminated on the supply situation especially towards the
end of 2006 decided to take the bold moue of importing
PMS aside of its other imports of the Automated Gas Oil
the company has decided to take the bull by the horn and
there is no going back on the fuel imports in the
overall interest of the country at large and our
esteemed marketers spread across the length and breath
of the country a particular.
The resolve of the company which will also go a long way
in compliment the supply from the Nigeria National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is borne out of the genuine
drive of NIPCO Plc to support government measures to
fully ease product supply problem in the country.
It will be recalled that the federal government as part
of the measure to address the ongoing scarcity appealed
through the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation to
both majors as independents to import petroleum product
to augment whatever NNPC was able to bring in.
The company’s import product which is expected to be
loaded before the end of January from Europe with a
sailing time of about 12 days would put smiles on the
faces of Nigerians as it will urgently address queues
across the country.
NIPCO import which will be discharge at its ultra modern
terminal at Apapa would be disturbed mainly among the
independent marketers some of whom had to leave their
trucks and drivers of the company’s premises for weeks
waiting to be supplied products.
The company has had to contend with the scarcity for
sometime with lots of concern for its teeming marketers
and is convinced that this import, and the subsequent
ones in the pipeline, the gloom on their faces will soon
change and all stakeholders will better for it.
NIPCO has indeed put in place lots of measures that will
add value to the numerous services being rendered to its
growing publics all in a bid to attain her vision of
being the first choice company to stakeholders.
The leadership role of the NNPC has remained one of the
motivating factors propelling NIPCO to join the PMS
import train and we will remain committed to their fresh
impetus to fuel terminal owners to bring in products
like the corporation has being doing as such be partners
