SPEECH DELIVERED AT A TWO DAY MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME IN COLABORATION WITH LAUREATE CONSULTS LIMITED AT NIPCO TRAINING CENTRE

It is a thing of joy to be part of this event which marks the flag off of the Annual Management manpower development training programme organized by the Human Resource Department to review our human capacity initiatives in 2007 and perfect strategies for the current year.

The programme with the theme Optimizing Organizational and Personal Effectiveness through Leadership Excellence is very apt expecially as the Company is always interested in issues that are related to staff optimal development .

Human capacity enhancement is a cardinal programme of the Company as we had long realized that our overall growth rate is intrinsically linked to the competencies of the organization workforce.

The foregoing explains our conscious efforts to always put premium on adequate staff training to make them equal and even surpass their colleagues in other downstream Companies in the oil & gas industry.

It is on record that all categories of staff in our employment had gone on one training or the other jointly or individually since the inception of the Company.

We shall remain focused in our pursuit of enhanced manpower development programmes as one of the companys proactive measures to meet the pace of development in the industry of which human resources development is a major challenge

This in the main has accounted for the high level of successes the company has recorded so far ,a feat which several stakeholders had applauded expecially when viewed from our corporate age.

In 2007, we committed huge sums of resources in ensuring that our workforce are regularly updated in their different fields of specialization. This is taking into consideration the imperativeness of regular manpower development expecially for the sector we operate in – downstream.

We are indeed happy that both the workforce and the Company reaped good benefits from the plethora of training undertaken last year.

The unwavering commitment and loyalty of the workforce contributed immensely to the steady growth of the organization even in its few years of operation.

It is in further recognition of the fact that the availability of knowledge – based workforce as a veritable tool for attaining competitive edge that the Company will not rest on its oars expecially in the area of manpower development and adequate welfare initiatives to further uplift the morale of the staff.

Several programmes had been slated for this year to improve the level of competencies of the workforce in collaboration with renown training institutes as yet another conviction of the management in the area of capacity building.

We shall vigorously pursue the policy of providing enabling environment for the workforce to exhibit whatever they had learnt at the manpower development programmes.

Skills and knowledge upgrade will be given utmost consideration so as to equip staff adequately to confront emerging challenges and stay ahead of competition.

Our well – trained manpower which is among the best in the country has contributed immensely to the organization’s operations which experts are now using as bench mark in the sector.

On the part of top management we shall not only continue to expose our staff to several Fora that could improve their job but also motivate them to attain greater efficiency and provide outstanding services in the country’s most strategic sector ,oil and gas.

This resolve is in consonance with our penchant for the promotion of best practices in the downstream sector as epitomized in our service delivery to the numerous publics we interfaced with .

We promise that we shall not relent as all indices of successful operation in the sector which the Company is known for shall not only be continued. but also improved upon if need be.
