INDUSTRY SAFETY STANDARDS
Nipco plc, a key player in the downstream sector of the
nations oil and gas industry, has assured its entire
workforce of an enabling work environment to enable them
perform effectively in the provision of effective
services to its esteemed customers.
The assurance coming on the heels of the various
transformations in the sector aimed at ensuring product
availability at all the retail outlets of the myriad of
independent petroleum markets is in line with the
mandate of the company to remain the rallying point of
indigenous fuel marketers under the banner of
Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).
Nipcos Managing Director Mr. Girish Sanadhya gave the
assurance in a goodwill message to the staff at safety
workshop packaged by the company’s Human Resource
Department in collaboration with the Industrial Training
Fund (ITF) at the newly commissioned training centre
within its ultra modern terminal at Apapa, Lagos State
with no fewer than 25 participants drawn from all
sections of the organization.
He explained that improvement in human and physical
facilities remains a priority programme of the company’s
management with a view to continuously push the company
in the right direction.
Mr. Sanadhya asserted that the level of automation in
the terminal will not only remain the hallmark but also
its steady improvement will be pursued to guarantee
effective service delivery.
“Making Nipco a household name in the petroleum
marketing sector is our goal and no stone will be left
unturned in this direction”, he noted.
He stressed that the company’s emphasis on continuous
human resource development is a deliberate policy as set
targets in terms of turnover; good business returns for
investors etc will remain a mirage without a well
trained and motivated workforce.
Mr. Sanadhya said since the commencement of operations
of the company, staffs have been undergoing training in
their different fields of specialization either within
or outside the terminal.
He explained that the management is quite aware of the
hazards in the sector and would always ensure that
staffs are routinely protected against them in their day
to day work in the company..
In his remark the Human Resource Manager whose
department coordinated the workshop which dwelt on
safety in workplace, Mr. Magaji Mohammed expressed deep
appreciation to the Management for sponsoring the event
adding that the uniqueness of the sector makes the topic
very imperative.
He likened the workshop to an empowerment programme to
ensure that all categories of workers in the
establishment sees security of lives and properties in
the terminal as every body’s responsibility.
The HR Manager stated that at the end of the workshop a
positive safety culture would been impacted on all
participants and will remain safety ambassador anywhere
they are within or outside the terminal.
The workshop, is in part fulfillment of approved safety
standards in the oil and gas industry with special
emphasis on the downstream sector, witnessed the
presentation of several papers and practical
demonstration of situation that could hamper the
protection of lives and properties in the terminal.
